Despite once being one of the main focal points to the town centre, The Kings Arms had grown tired over the years and faded into the background as new High Street chains sprouted up. However, seizing this opportunity to restore new life into this historical and beautiful building, Oakman Inns & Restaurants worked for almost two years to acquire the property and secure the relevant permissions needed to create the stylish bar, grill and restaurant with 15 en-suite bedrooms that it is today. Oakman Inns & Restaurants Ltd has developed a new concept of the modern public house, offering a high standard of food, drink and service within a contemporary and comfortable atmosphere. The first Oakman Inn, The Akeman in Tring, opened in December 2007. It was an instant success and has continued to grow over the years. The second, The Old Post Office in Wallingford, followed in February 2009, and in December 2009, The Red Lion in Water End became the third Oakman Inn. Since its success Oakman Inns & Restaurants has added two hotels to its collection, The Kings Arms and The Marlborough in Witney, Oxfordshire. It also is a joint venture partner in the innovative British Larder Suffolk business – www.britishlardersuffolk.co.uk. A gastro pub with a difference. The Kings Arms is an important part of the Oakman Inns & Restaurants Collection as they worked very hard to gain an understanding of the type of place that Berkhamsted people wanted and the size of their investment in the Restaurant, Bar and Rooms, reflected their confidence that the Kings Arms would be well received.
